Our Story

Adrift began with a bold leap of faith in 1980, when Gordon and Bess left the -40°C winters of Canada for the golden shores of New Zealand, sight unseen. Together, they transformed 10 acres of wild coastal land into a flourishing farm and, eventually, this five-star sanctuary. Though we recently said a heartbreaking goodbye to Gordon, his vision of "quiet luxury" and his deep love for Tukurua Beach remain the heartbeat of Adrift. Today, Emily, Johnny, Jordan and Bess continue his legacy of Kaitiakitanga, ensuring every guest feels the same warmth and genuine care that Gordon and the family spent forty years perfecting.
